Stepping It Up

My office is very flexible with work attire.  We are a jeans company, so wearing them everyday is not something that is frowned upon.

At the end of last year I started getting lazy with my outfits.  I was dressing more for comfort instead of for the job I have.  It didn't hit me until my boss was out of the office and one of our Sr. Recruiters was in town.  She asked me how I was doing "besides dressing super casual" while my boss was out of the office.

In that moment I could have died.  This isn't the person I am or want to be perceived as.  That day I made a decision to stop dressing for comfort and start dressing for the position I hold and who I assist.

The Outfit I got called out on
Casual Friday

My goals now when coming into the office are...
*Heels 3 days per week
*Lipstick {at least put it on in the morning, if it doesn't get reapplied oh well}
*Venture out of my safety zone and wear one new outfit a week
*Stand up straight
*Accessorize more

Give Blood

Source: None via Kokomajojo on Pinterest

The number one reason donors say they give blood is because they "want to help others."
One donation can help save the lives of up to three people.
A healthy donor may donate red blood cells every 56 days, or double red cells every 112 days
Donating blood is a safe process. A sterile needle is used only once for each donor and then discarded.
Blood donation is a simple four-step process: registration, medical history and mini-physical, donation and refreshments.
More than 38,000 blood donations are needed every day.
Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood.

Today we had a blood drive at work.
It was my first time giving blood.
It was such a painless process I was kind of mad at myself for not donating sooner.
If you can, give. You never know if one day you will need the favor returned?

Being an Assistant

Never in a million years did I think I would be an assistant when I went to college.  Little did I know what was in store for me 5 years after I graduated college?  I am an assistant, but not just any type of assistant, I have the title as Executive Assistant.{Please note the sarcastic tone}.

When I started off at my current company I was a receptionist.  MG and I had just moved from GA to LA and I needed a job desperately.  Was it what I wanted to do? Nope, but it was a foot in the door and I took it.  I made a good impression on the owners & HR and after 2 years of answering the phones, dealing with samples/vendors and other random acts HR said they had the perfect position for me, an EA.  At first I was less than thrilled, I think we have all seen The Devil Wears Prada!

Here I am 9 months into it and I couldn't be more happy with my professional career.  My boss is amazing in every sense of the word.  He believes in work-life balance, takes MG and I to Lakers games, sends me flowers for my bday and he trusts me.  We have built such a great relationship and I am so thankful I took the position. Yesterday the Director of HR called me and said she had taken a vote on who has the best job in the company and I won because of who I work for.  What a complement!
I don't ALWAYS feel this way, but most days I do think that I am pretty lucky!

Work Event Recap

Last night MAG and I attended an event for work at The Standard Hotel in West Hollywood.  Overall I must say it was okay.  Just okay?  Yes, because the crowed wasn't really my type.  The party was put on with this magazine.  It's a hipster mag and that is totally fine.  Our brand caters to a lot of different type of people.  When I categorize myself I don't fall into that hipster style.  Let's be honest here, I dress super preppy.  JCrew is my favorite & my biggest fashion risk is wearing silver glittery Toms.

On to the celebrities.  I saw a few people who I recognized, but nobody I would freak out over.  Kanye was definitely my biggest celebrity sighting of the day.  Here are a few pictures from last nights event.

Richie Rich

Debi Mazar

Keri Hilson

Vampire Diaries

Overall it was a fun evening and I am thankful I was invited.  Can't wait to see what invite comes next!  And I guess you all know where I now work?!  Please don't write anything on my blog about it.  I would like for my company to not know about what I do in my spare time. and it will pop up on Google Alerts:)  Thanks!!

Annoyed!

Don't you hate it when you make mistakes at work?!  I do.  I feel that I am a very dedicated employee and take my job very seriously.  Yes, I do read blogs at break and sneak in some FB time daily, but overall I think I am an asset to my company.  {Big headed not really, I just want to be a good employee.}  So when I f-up at work I hold on to it a little longer than I should.

Today was one of those f-up days.  Last night before I left I shredded, which is something I do every night.  Well I accidentally shredded something I wasn't supposed to.  It wasn't the end of the world but I felt awful because I had just created more work for my boss.  What did I do?  Go through the shredder and pull out the tiny shreds of paper and pieced it back together.  Yep, took me a whole hour to do.  When my boss got back from his meeting he was so happy that it made me feel like less of an idiot.

Is anyone else thrilled it is Thursday afternoon?  I am.  Tonight is our weekly girls night.  I can't wait to drink a glass of wine and catch up on The Bachelor.  I hope to get a run in before we meet.  MAG is making steak salads tonight and I can't wait.  This is one of my favorite meals.  Last night we had McDonalds.  Healthy, I know.  I had a kids meal and thought to myself, I could totally eat another one of these.  Bad I know especially since I have joined Brittney's March Madness program!

Ch-Ch-Changes

Since starting my new j-o-b my life has completely changed.  I have gone from having very little responsibility to a lot of it.  Let me be clear, I am not complaining.  I really do love my new job; it is just an adjustment.  I got a B!ackberry yesterday.  I feel so official.  I have never used one before or an iphone {yes, I know! I haven't been living under a rock.  I just never wanted to spend the $ on one.} Well the BB is so cool! I love it.  I know it has only been one day, pretty soon it could be my worst nightmare.

On top of my work load, MAG's writing partner is in town for the next few weeks while they finish The Ocean Black.  I am really excited the script is almost finished.  This is the last piece of the puzzle before meetings can take place.

Needless to say December has become a stressful month for us, but I am dealing with it nicely {I think, MAG might beg to differ.}

Good Things Happen...

...to those that wait!  I am so happy to announce I have been promoted.  After 2 years of hard work at my previous position I am finally climbing the corporate ladder.  I started today as an Executive Assistant.  Never did I think this would be a job I would take, but Monday I interviewed with him and thought we are a great fit.  He approaches our work relationship more as a team not C_ _/EA.  I think as a team we will both be extremely successful.  Can't wait to see what the future holds!
