Never Say Never

When I first moved to LA I said I would NEVER live in or around Hollywood.  It is gross, crowded and overrated.  Well times are changing folks because MG and I are on the move.  Yep, after a lot of talking about it we are finally committing.  We are looking to move by the end of the year to either Los Feliz or Silver Lake.

This will probably come as a shock to my local friends who read my little blog because in the past I have been a Westside Snob.  Well times are changing for a few reasons.

We went to a BBQ with friends who live in that area.  They just moved into a 2 bedroom with wood floors for about $400 less than what we pay now.  The $ that we would be saving in rent would help us pay off debt, so much so that we could be debt free in less than a year.

We will be able to travel more.  This is a big priority of ours for the next year.  Kids are about 8 or 9 or 10 years down the road {I will save my reasoning for another post}.  We want to see the world before we settle down and start a family.

A puppy!  I know this contradicts with #2, but we really want a dog and in our apartment now we can’t have one so we will have to move anyways.

MG’s best friends live in this area.  He is super fortunate to have built a great group of friends while at film school.  They are all passionate, hard working and like my brothers.  

The restaurants are better.  Most nights we cook because we don’t want to waste our $ on crappy meals.  When we move I will miss Deloris’ for sure, but we will be closer to The Griddle.  I would say that is an equal trade.

My commute would be cut in half. Major plus!

Our ultimate goal is to end up on the Westside again.  The 3 to 4 year plan is to be able to get a place in Venice.  The 10 year plan is to own a home in the Palisades and start a family.  {Big dreamer right here!}

This weekend we are starting the hunt.  Honestly, I couldn’t be more excited about this change.

9/11

Friday should be happy, but this one just feels a little bit different.  With the 10 year anniversary of 9/11 on Sunday it has brought up emotions all over again for us Americans.  

Today my friend who works in NYC posted a picture on FB from her office window.  It overlooks the WTC memorial. 

None of us will ever forget that day.  

I was a Senior in HS in 2nd period Sociology with Ms. McGee.  We were in the computer lab that day researching professions we might be interested in perusing.  The bell had just run, Mel and I were walking out the door and Ms. McGee yelled, a plane hit the WTC in NY just a moment ago.  I immediately looked at Mel and said the US is being attacked and Osama Bin Laden is behind it.  It is still very weird to me that I immediately knew this.  There were stores of friends family members who worked in the building who made it out alive.  The whole thing was so surreal. 

MG and I already had a trip planned to NYC in November for Thanksgiving.  {Yes, my parents were crazy or very trusting to let the 2 of us go out of town by ourselves when I was still in high school.  His uncle had an apartment there and would travel to Paris every Thanksgiving.  He would leave it to us for the week. Yep, it was awesome!}  We were debating on going or not, but both of us craved to be in the city.  We wanted to pay our respect to the lives lost on that tragic day.  It was so emotional.  It was less than two months in so the clean up effort was very little.  One image that will always stand out in my mind was waiting in line and looking up at the trees.  There were blinds, shoes, cords and other random items stuck there covered in soot.  It was so bizarre.  

I would like to thank our troops for keeping us safe, our first responders who did exactly what they are trained to do without any hesitation and the American people.  We united as a country and it felt amazing to all be routing for the same team.

Good News + Fashion

My sister got an awesome phone call last night from her BF in Afghanistan.  He is coming home in less than 10 days! Woo-hoo!  I am a little nervous for them because it will be such an adjustment with him transitioning into day to day life again.  He has told her very little about his experience over there.  He said there are many things he experienced that he wishes he could forget.  I can only imagine, poor thing!

Tonight is Fashion Night Out.  MG and I will be making our way to Rodeo Drive to see my company's store and the ferris wheel.  Should be a fun evening, crowed but fun!

Yesterday I was going through my friends Pinterest boards and realized I want to cut my hair.  I want something fresh for fall.  My long hair has been kind of bugging me lately anyways.  Decisions. Decisions. What's a girl to do?!

Last night I was following Nina Garcia at the Missoni Pop Up Shop for Target.  I want everything.  Missoni is  one of my favorites, I think it is because of the zig zags.

Was anyone else super excited for RZ to come back on Bravo this week?!  I was super excited.  Her Director of Operations, Marisa, is a good friends with one of my friends.  We have hung out a couple of times and she is a doll.  She has nothing but awesome words to say about her boss {which is great because you never really know if the person is being portrayed correctly on TV}.  Plus it is always cool to see someone you know on TV.

What I am Loving: Cabo

How perfect that WILW falls on the day of my Cabo recap.  Just perfection:)  I am in a pretty giddy mood today for some reason, not sure why, but I will take it!

We left for Cabo on Saturday morning bright and early.  LAX was a clusterf***!  We seriously thought we were going to miss our flight but some how the airport gods graced us with their presents.  We arrived at our gate just as they were starting to board.  It was really a close call.  Everyone on the plane was all smiles, duh?! We are heading to Mexico-everyone should be happy:)  After a quick 2 hour flight we landed, were picked up and dropped off at our hotel.  It was beautiful, just like the website.  We stopped for a quick bite to eat and then headed to our room.  It was HUGE! About 200 sq ft bigger than our apartment.  It made me really want double sinks and a walk in closet-one day.

We spent most of the week lounging by the pool, relaxing, drinking and just hanging out.  On Monday we decided to venture into town and check it out.  {I wanted to stock up on pottery and silver jewelry}.  It was HOT!  I wasn't prepared for how hot it would be, but after I complained for a few minutes my negative Nancy attitude was cured with a margarita or two.

 On Tuesday we scheduled an excursion to go kayaking and snorkeling near the arch.  Honestly, I was a little nervous, but I ended up LOVING it!  Kayaking is my new favorite thing.  We went snorkeling off of Lover's Beach.  Honestly, it was okay.  I told MG that I have retired.  If you are planning on going to Cabo and looking to do an excursion while you are there I would highly recommend this one.

On our last night we traveled back into town {our hotel was about 20 minutes north of Los Cabos} for a romantic dinner on the beach.  It was the perfect way to spend our last evening.  We dined at Baja Cantina {which is ironic because our favorite Mexican place in LA has the same name}.  It was perfection watching the sunset, listening to the band play, toes in the sand and the perfect margarita.  It was by far the best night we had there.

We are planning to go back, hopefully in the next year or two.  When we do we are going to rent a condo in town.  We went during their off-season so it was pretty empty which we liked.  Twice a week the cruise ships dock for the day and then it goes back to being a small, quiet town.  If you have any questions please let me know.  We really fell in love with this place, but not our hotel.  The rooms were nice and the pool/ocean area was great.  The food was AWFUL!  We would never stay there again because of it.

 We have totally been bitten by the travel bug and its bad! More on our up coming trips soon!

What a day!  I have been out of the office for 10 days {loving every moment of it}, so today has kind of been a whirlwind.  I had to chuckle to myself this morning when I came in an had what felt like a million emails :( MG texted me at 11 AM this morning saying we should go ahead and plan our next long weekend tonight.  We have been bitten by the travel bug bad!  I can't wait to catch ya'll up on Cabo.  It was an amazing trip, lots of fun, relaxation and pool time.  Overall it was just what we needed.
